Notes on Cups, Trophies, Prizes and Scholarships awarded at this year's prizegiving are as follows:-
Cups, Trophies, Prizes and Scholarships
The Andrew Cooke Memorial Trophy is awarded to the middle school student who excels as an All-Rounder. The trophy and miniatures were presented by Mrs N Cooke in 1990 in memory of Andrew, who was killed in a motorcycle accident, less than six months after he left school.
The ARA Lodge Visual Art Award - ARA Lodge in Auckland city is New Zealand’s oldest masonic lodge, established in 1842. Each year it awards Visual Arts prizes to top students from Auckland secondary schools.
The Barbara Morgan Cup and Prize for Senior Public Speaking donated by Mrs Barbara Morgan, teacher (1974-1982).
The Bill and Lynsie Cotter Achievement Award was set up in the names of former Trust Board Chairman, the late Bill and Lynsie Cotter to recognise and assist a student or students at Dilworth School with an activity or study in which the student demonstrates skill and potential.
The Bruce Stewart KC Scholarships gifted by the Hugo Charitable Trust. This donation covers the wages and travel costs for three Dilworth leavers to attend the Royal School Dungannon as GAP tutors, for a year.
The Callwell Memorial Trophy to the boy leaving school who most closely epitomises the qualities for which Bert Callwell was admired: optimistic, positive, outgoing, supportive, loyal and hardworking.
The Centennial Trophy for Valuable Service consisting of a miniature statue of James Dilworth on a block of stone from which the Centennial Cross was carved, was presented by Mr Stan West, Old Boy, at the time of the centennial of the Trust in 1995.
The Chapel Cup for best homily in Chapel presented by Mr WD Thompson, teacher (1982-1985).
The Chenery Trust Award for a promising Year 13 student, who has shown consistent effort. This scholarship supports the student in their ongoing tertiary study.
The Class of ‘92 Trophy for Friendship in Year 13 was presented by the Class of 1992.
The Connolly Prize for Loyal and Outstanding Service to the School, was established by the school to recognise the service of former Headmaster, Mr John Conolly (1952-1966).
The Dudley Berryman Roy Memorial Dux Award
This Award of excellence is a tribute to the memory of Pupil No 175 Dudley Berryman Roy – or ‘Pup Roy’ as the grieving boy with the sad eyes became known to his Principal! Just weeks after the death of his father Frank Roy in the influenza epidemic of 1918, Dudley aged six became the 175th pupil enrolled at the Dilworth Ulster Institute.
The Eden Absolum-Cortland Memorial Trophy and Prize for an outstanding Year 13 student who is kind-hearted and easy-going, with an interest in sport and driven to make the most of life.
The Eileen Marsden Memorial Trophy for a student who displays attributes of friendship and the ability to relate to his peers and younger pupils alike. Presented by the Friendship Club in 1989 in memory of Eileen Marsden, the founding President of the Club, mother of Ross (1961-70) and Graham (1963-1972).
The Friends of King’s School Trophy for character and initiative in Year 8.
The Gibson Cup for the Head Prefect was presented by the Old Boys’ Association in 1941 to mark the service of former Headmaster, Mr Noel Gibson, (1914-1944).
The Good & Useful Award in memory of old boy Kyle Jack-Midgley, Head Boy 2001. The recipient of the award will display the qualities so evident in Kyle. The award goes to a student who has represented the school community with honour and integrity.
The Gordon Campbell Cup and Medal for Sportsman of the Year.
The Interact Cup for a Good and Useful Citizen in Year 9.
The Irish Cup for the Performer of the Year presented by Mrs S A McCrystal, in memory of her late husband, Richard.
The Jackson Russell Scholarship for a diligent student intending to study law, donated by the law firm Jackson Russell. Dilworth and Jackson Russell have had a strong enduring relationship since 1894.
The John Finny Cup for Junior Campus Sportsman of the Year.
The Kevin Boyce Award for Middle School Performer of the Year.
The Ludbrook Cup for the Best All-Round Senior student was presented by Dr S L Ludbrook, school doctor from 1929-1950. There is an Old Boys’ Foundation award associated with the cup.
The Maltby Scholarship for a promising student intending to study in the field of Property Development.
The Mark Mitchell Memorial Trophy for the Cock House presented by Old Boy, Stuart Mitchell, in memory of his brother Mark (1959-1965).
The Mrs F C Middleton's Trophy for All-round Academic and Sporting Excellence at Junior Campus.
The Old Boys’ Association Medals of Excellence: Bronze Medals are awarded for activity at a Regional level. Silver Medals are awarded for activity at National level.
The One Tree Hill Borough Council Cup for Community Service - This Cup was donated by the One Tree Hill Borough Council to mark the end of its establishment, prior to amalgamation with Auckland City Council in 1989.
The Rex Hooton Cup for kindness and compassion.
The Richard Rountree Trophy for Junior Campus Head Student.
The Rodney Sholto Smith Memorial Prize awarded for initiative, leadership and character in the middle school was presented in memory of R S Smith (1935-1941).
The Russell Prizes for Music and the Russell Prizes for Leadership - generously donated by Dilworth old boy, Denis Lane in the memory of Eve Russell, teacher (1944-1959) - for Music, and Major General Sir Andrew Hamilton Russell 23 February 1868 - Died 29 November 1960, for Leadership.
The Saint Kentigern Award marks the centenary of Dilworth School, donated by Dr Bruce Goodfellow, Chairman of the Saint Kentigern Trust Board, for services to Chapel.
The Staples Scholarships. The Staples Education Foundation is a tertiary scholarship programme created in 2015, to help Year 13 Dilworth students intending to study for a university degree in Auckland. The scholarships are designed to offer wrap around support to recipients as they transition from school to university. The support and guidance available to the students comes from mentors, buddies and the Staples Education Foundation Board and Executive Team.
The Sportsman of the Year Trophy presented by Mr Gordon Campbell, former Geography teacher and head of Social Studies, 1968-1973.
The Tom Marshall Trophy for Team of the Year – any team or group in the school (including sport, culture and performance) that has been clearly outstanding during the year, most likely in competition.
