Dilworth's Top Scholars for 2022

Date: 12 May 2023

Last week, all eyes were on Dilworth’s top scholars as the school came together to  acknowledge their achievements at the annual Top Scholars Awards Ceremony. It was an evening to remember as the whole school, whānau and special guests, turned out in force to celebrate the successes of Dilworth’s students and to see them receive their academic colours.

Headmaster Mr Dan Reddiex gave the opening address and read out citations detailing each student’s achievements. Diversity of talent was evident with students excelling across a range of subject areas – many across multiple disciplines.

In his address, Mr Reddiex reflected on the significant academic success of the young men coming up on stage and noted their achievements had also been against a backdrop of the ongoing disruption encountered last year. He encouraged all Dilworth students to make the most of their time at school, talking to them about the proven relationship between income and school qualifications, and incentivising them to try their best for themselves and their families. Mr Reddiex quoted several international studies that emphasised the importance of education in underscoring income.

Our 2022 top scholars had some noteworthy achievements with 17 NCEA Level 1, eight Level 2 and 11 Level 3 colours awarded.

The final suite of colours presented, the Premier Awards, were for Scholarships. These are highly contested and are awarded to only a very small percentage of students across the country. Dilworth students were awarded six Scholarships and two Outstanding Scholarships in a wide range of subjects - Drama, English, Music, PE & Health, Printmaking and Statistics.

The two Outstanding Scholarships were awarded to Taipuhi King for Music and Hezekiah Young for Health and Physical Education - capping off an incredible Dilworth journey for both young men.

The audience was treated to a stunning musical item, Arabesque no.2 by Claude Debussy, performed by Louis Saolotoga.

Huge congratulations to all our Top Scholars for 2022
