Message from the Dilworth Trust Board - Dan Reddiex appointed Principal of Dilworth School

November 22, 2018

The Dilworth Trust Board is delighted to announce the appointment of Mr Dan Reddiex as the eighth Principal of Dilworth School.

With a career in education spanning more than 20 years, Mr Reddiex joins us from King’s High School in Dunedin where he has been Rector (Principal) since 2008.

Prior to this, Mr Reddiex was Assistant Principal at Otago Boys’ High School. Additionally he taught Economics and was a school Dean at both King’s High School and at Palmerston North Boys’ High School.

Mr Reddiex studied in Palmerston North, gaining a BA in Economics from Massey University and a Diploma of Teaching from the Palmerston North College of Education.

King’s High School, a state secondary school for boys, focuses on building men for life through the pursuit of personal excellence. Mr Reddiex has led the school through a period of significant growth and change. Since 2008, the school’s roll has grown 70% to more than 1,000 boys. He has overseen outstanding improvements in all aspects of student achievement including NCEA results, endorsements and scholarships.

Mr Reddiex is strongly committed to student wellbeing, introducing values-based programmes into the curriculum. He has also instigated an alumni engagement programme, managed fundraising initiatives and overseen major developments of school facilities. Mr Reddiex is a recipient of the Woolf Fisher Fellowship Award in recognition of Excellence in Leadership.

In his spare time, he is a keen cricket and soccer fan. He is married to Carrie and they have two children – Larissa and Joel, aged 19 and 17 respectively.

Mr Reddiex will join Dilworth School at the start of Term 2 next year with his first day being Monday, 29 April. In the interim, Head of Senior Campus Mr Neil Ritchie will be Acting Principal during Term 1 in 2019 after Mr Donald MacLean finishes at Dilworth at the end of the year. Mr MacLean will assist in transitioning Mr Reddiex to our school.

As only our eighth Principal in our 112-year history, it is rare for Dilworth to recruit for this important role. The Trust Board is confident that Mr Reddiex has the skills, experience and vision to lead our unique school through the next, exciting chapter and stages of development.

He is a passionate and dedicated educator who has a deep understanding of how best to help boys achieve, succeed and prepare for their future. He is committed to maintaining the special character of Dilworth in the Anglican tradition.

We look forward to welcoming Mr Reddiex to our community in 2019.
