Dilworth Senior Big Band at the KBB Music Festival

August 23, 2017

The Dilworth Senior Big Band competed for the first time at the annual KBB Music Festival at the Holy Trinity Cathedral in Parnell on Thursday 17 August.

After a mere four months of rehearsal and following on from successful performances at the Dilworth X-Change Performers Night (run by the Old Boys Association) and an assembly for the Senior Campus students, the boys were keen to test their work against the other Auckland schools being represented at the competition.

A series of minor set backs and challenges in a very difficult week for the school did not prevent them from fronting up and the two adjudicators judging the competition were generous in complimenting the attitude and potential of what is still a very young group.

The band played well and earned a Bronze Award for their efforts – a convincing indicator of the good work done so far, and a result that will motivate them to move forward as we approach more difficult material and raise our expectations of top quality performance outcomes.

As part of the KBB Music Festival experience the boys were also able to hear some of the best student bands in Auckland and this has given them a much clearer picture of the path ahead as we strive for stronger and more consistent results over the coming years.
