Today we were informed of the guilty plea of former Chaplain Ross Browne in response to charges of historical sexual abuse.
Ross Browne is the third former member of staff to plead guilty since Operation Beverly commenced last year and our thoughts are with all of our community’s victim survivors. The School has apologised to all former students who are victim survivors and deeply regrets the harm they have endured.
As we have stated previously, Dilworth chose to waive name suppression in connection with the proceedings as we have been determined to confront the historical sexual abuse that occurred at Dilworth honestly and openly. We are taking responsibility for our past and we are committed to making sure the experience of our present and future students is a fulfilling, enjoyable and safe one. The Dilworth School of today has in place a comprehensive programme of best practice initiatives and policies to proactively ensure we are providing the safest possible environment for our students. You can read more about our safety and wellbeing initiatives here.
Dilworth School has been working actively with the police to support their investigation and our concern remains for the welfare of our Old Boys and for our school community. Support services have been made available to Old Boys through the School, including access to confidential counselling with an independent clinical psychologist.
