We aim to foster active participation and social interaction, provide opportunities to improve personal and leadership skills, and develop a sense of fair play.
Participation in sport not only builds a strong school spirit, it also enables students to experience the benefits of being involved in competition. Involvement of both staff and students brings positive benefits to the classroom, boarding house and other learning environments.
Here at Dilworth, we believe passionately that every boy should have the right to learn a musical instrument.
Thanks to the vision of James Dilworth and of our Board, we are able to offer individual music tuition to more than 80% of our students and group lessons to all. Instrumental music lessons are a compulsory requirement for all boys from Year 7 to Year 9, as is curricular involvement in the associated large ensembles; string orchestra and concert band.
The difference it makes to these boys is phenomenal. Some of our boys have discovered musical abilities they didn’t know they had. Many have achieved the highest qualifications in their chosen field of music, and others have gone on to reach the world stage.
Cultural activities form a large part of the Dilworth experience for students, with many opportunities for boys to take part in Kapa Haka, dance, drama, school productions and other activities.
Throughout the year, there are many opportunities for the boys to showcase their talent on stage for parents, caregivers and the Dilworth community.
Students are able to pursue their interests and take part in a wide range of activities. These vary between campuses but include chess, debating, community volunteering, Spirit of Adventure and more.
