Showdown Awards
31/10/2012

Last night the cast of Godspell attended a formal awards ceremony for 36 school productions from the Auckland Region. We had nominations in several categories and were proud to win Best Musical Direction (Zac Johns, year 13 – nominated against music teachers from High Schools) and Best Supporting Male in a Musical (Ben Robertson, Judas).

But the real excitement of the night came when we were awarded the supreme award of Best Overall Production for Godspell. This award was for the whole cast and band and crew and therefore incredibly special  to us all and to the whole community who supported us throughout the journey. Dilworth has never before received this high honour, and last night will rate amongst one of the proudest moments in the life of the school for many years to come.

Photos include - Key staff, Ben and his family on stage, Zac and his Gran - Jean Johns and Jordyn Brown (drummer), the whole cast on stage receiving the award.

Sir Wilson James Whineray 10 July 1935 – 22 October 2012
27/10/2012

It is with great sadness that the Dilworth Trust Board notes the passing of Sir Wilson Whineray.

Whilst Sir Wilson is remembered primarily for his prowess on the rugby field, many at Dilworth are privileged to have known him in his capacity as a Trustee between 1996 and 2007.

A business associate of Sir Wilson’s was quoted as saying that “one of his greatest pleasures was being on the Dilworth Trust”, which provides education to boys from disadvantaged backgrounds.

Current and former Trustees, representatives from teaching staff and students joined hundreds of mourners at Parnell’s Holy Trinity Cathedral to farewell Sir Wilson who was remembered by the Sport New Zealand Chief Executive in the following way:

“He strove for excellence, in himself and others, and showed leadership through service in sports, business and the community.”

Trustees, Staff and students of Dilworth extend their deepest sympathy to Lady Elisabeth and family.

Rural Campus Opening
1/04/2012

After many months of hard work and planning, Te Haerenga, the Dilworth Rural Campus, was officially opened on Saturday, 10 March, 2012. This day was the finale to a long process of turning a boutique hotel into a boys’ school, able to accommodate 100 boys and staff and delivering a programme aimed at developing independence and resilience, in a rural setting. The opening was combined with the annual Founders' Assembly, during which thanks is given for the foresight and generosity of James and Isabella Dilworth. Over 1,500 people attended the opening, during which School musical and cultural talent was showcased, as were elements of the new programme being developed at the Campus.

The Rural Campus was officially opened by special guest, Governor General, Lieutenant General, The Right Honourable Sir Jerry Mateparae.

Following a generous lunch, there was an opportunity to tour the new facility and for guests to talk with Staff and boys about this exciting new concept.
